MBR Flat-Sheet Membrane

Membrane bioreactor (MBR) filtration combines activated-sludge treatment with 0.04–0.1 µm hollow-fiber or flat-sheet membranes, producing clarified, bacteria-free permeate in one tank. PVDF or PES bundles are immersed directly in the aeration basin; intermittent suction (10–30 L m⁻² h⁻¹) and coarse-bubble scouring keep surfaces clean, giving 8–12 months between chemical cleans. The system maintains 8 000–12 000 mg L⁻¹ MLSS, doubling biological capacity and reducing footprint 50 % versus conventional clarifiers. Permeate turbidity <0.2 NTU, BOD <5 mg L⁻¹ and total suspended solids ≈0 mg L⁻¹ meet stringent reuse or discharge limits. MBR fits municipal sewage, industrial effluent and RO pretreatment, modular cassettes allowing 5–500 m³ h⁻¹ expansion without new civil works. By integrating biological oxidation and membrane retention, MBR membrane filtration delivers high-quality effluent, low sludge production and automated, odor-free operation in a compact reactor volume.
