Polyacrylamide, commonly referred to as PAM, is a linear polymer obtained through the homopolymerization of acrylamide or copolymerization with other monomers. This macromolecular compound contains amide groups in its structural units, which readily form hydrogen bonds, endowing it with excellent water solubility and high chemical reactivity. It can be easily modified through grafting or cross-linking to form branched or network structures.
By selecting different initiator systems and comonomers, as well as controlling polymerization parameters, the structure of PAM can be tailored to achieve a wide range of physical and chemical properties. This high degree of customizability has resulted in the absence of a unified international standard for polyacrylamide products.
