Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a linear polymer produced by the homopolymerization of acrylamide or its copolymerization with other monomers. This macromolecule contains amide groups along its chain, which readily form hydrogen bonds. This property grants PAM excellent water solubility and high chemical reactivity, allowing it to be easily modified through grafting or cross-linking reactions to form branched or three-dimensional network structures.
By selecting specific initiator systems and comonomers, and by controlling polymerization parameters, the structure of PAM can be precisely tailored to achieve a wide range of physical and chemical properties. It is this high degree of customizability that has led to the absence of a unified international standard for polyacrylamide products.
