The functional components of defoamers

2025,10,29

In the industrial processes where foam formation can hinder efficiency and product quality, defoamers play a critical role. The high performance and remarkable stability of modern defoamers are a direct result of their sophisticated multi-component design. Each functional group works in synergy to ensure effective and long-lasting foam control.

Primary Defoaming Agents: As the main active ingredient, these components, such as dimethyl silicone oil and polydimethylsiloxane, are responsible for the immediate rupture of foam bubbles and the suppression of new foam formation.

Auxiliary Defoaming Agents: Acting as crucial partners to the primary agents, components like fatty acid esters and phosphate esters enhance overall performance.

Carrier Medium: constituting the bulk of the formulation, carriers like water or liquid hydrocarbon oils provide a medium for the other components.

Spreading or Emulsifying Agents: These substances, including various esters, epoxy-based polymers, and sorbitan esters, are vital for ensuring the defoamer disperses evenly and acts quickly throughout the target system.
