Coagulant principle of poly aluminum chloride

2025,11,04
In water, particles often remain suspended due to electrical charges on their surfaces. PAC Polyaluminum Chloride alters the ionic environment by increasing ion concentration, compressing the electrical double layer and allowing particles to come closer. As repulsion weakens, van der Waals forces promote aggregation and sedimentation.
Polyaluminum chloride PAC also works by adsorbing to charged particles and neutralizing their surface charge. This reduces electrostatic repulsion, making it easier for particles to aggregate.
Polymer-based PAC polyaluminum chloride products contain long-chain molecules that can bind multiple particles together. When these polymers adsorb onto particle surfaces, parts of the molecule extend into the solution, capturing other particles and forming a network-like structure.
At certain pH levels and dosages, polyaluminum chloride PAC forms hydroxide and carbonate precipitates (such as Al(OH)3, Fe(OH)3, CaCO3), which enmesh and trap suspended solids.  These precipitates settle quickly and improve clarity.
