Polyferric Sulfate is a ferric iron-based coagulant that is used to remove suspended solids from wastewater. Polyferric sulfate is typically added to the wastewater at a concentration of 0.5 to 1g/L. This chemical reacts with chloride ions in the water, forming soluble ferrous chloride and insoluble ferric hydroxide, which can be removed from the water by sedimentation or filtration. Polyferric sulfate has been shown to have an elimination rate of about 2.5 mg/L/min and can be used in concentrations as low as 0.03 g/L in wastewater treatment plants with low energy requirements (less than 10 kWh/m3)
