Cationic Polyacrylamide (CPAM) is a water-soluble synthetic polymer derived from acrylamide monomers, which have been modified with cationic functional groups, such as quaternary ammonium groups. CPAM falls within the family of polyelectrolytes and is recognized for its high molecular weight, typically ranging from 5 to 20 million Daltons, as well as its significant positive charge density.

Due to its cationic nature, CPAM can effectively interact with negatively charged particles, colloids, and organic matter present in aqueous systems. This characteristic endows CPAM with versatile properties as a flocculant and coagulant aid.
