Liquid Poly Aluminum Chloride (PAC) is an inorganic polymer coagulant widely used in water treatment and industrial processes. Its chemical formula is typically represented as
[Al 2 (OH) n Cl 6-n ] m , where n=1–5 and m≤10, forming a highly charged polymeric structure.
PAC is produced through the partial hydrolysis of aluminum chloride, resulting in a solution rich in hydroxyl and aluminum ions. Compared to traditional coagulants like alum ( Aluminum Sulfate ), liquid PAC offers superior efficiency, broader applicability, and environmental friendliness.
Its liquid form eliminates the need for dissolution, enabling rapid mixing and immediate action in treatment processes.
Liquid PAC contains 10–12% Al 2 O 3 (aluminum oxide) with low impurities, ensuring consistent performance.
Stable in storage and resistant to temperature fluctuations.
Strong charge neutralization capability destabilizes suspended particles and colloids rapidly.
Forms large, dense flocs that settle quickly, reducing turbidity and organic matter.
Effective across a broad pH range (5–9), minimizing the need for pH adjustment.
Performs well in low-temperature or high-alkalinity water.
Less corrosive to equipment compared to ferric salts or sulfuric acid-based coagulants.
Free of heavy metals and toxic byproducts, making it safe for drinking water applications.
Lower dosage requirements (20–50% less than traditional coagulants) reduce operational costs.
Liquid form simplifies transportation, storage, and dosing systems.
Water Treatment
Drinking Water Purification: Removes turbidity, algae, heavy metals, and microorganisms.
Wastewater Treatment: Treats industrial effluents (e.g., textiles, dyes, pharmaceuticals) by reducing COD, BOD, and phosphorus.
Municipal Sewage: Clarifies urban wastewater and aids sludge dewatering.
Industrial Processes
Papermaking: Acts as a retention agent and improves paper quality.
Textile Industry: Removes dyes and stabilizes wastewater pH.
Oil & Gas: Treats oil-containing wastewater and enhances oil-water separation.
Other Uses
Cosmetics: Functions as an antiperspirant ingredient.
Pharmaceuticals: Utilized in drug purification processes.
Agriculture: Adjusts soil pH and flocculates irrigation water.
